When to convert to JPG — and when not
| Situation | JPG suitable? |
|---|---|
| Photos to post or send | Yes, much smaller |
| A portal or form that only accepts JPG | Yes |
| Logo or image with transparency | No — transparency gets filled with a colour; keep PNG |
| Screenshot with small text | PNG is usually clearer, or JPG at quality 90+ |
Tips
- Don't re-save the same image as JPG again and again — each save loses a little quality. Keep the original and convert from it.
- Use “max size” when uploading to a website or shop: 1600–2000 px wide is enough for most screens.
- To shrink files further, use Image Compressor.
Privacy and security
“Convert to JPG” runs entirely in your browser: your images and files are never uploaded and no copy is kept. Free, with no sign-up.
Tip: Quality 85–90 suits most uses and is far smaller than PNG.
