Before sharing a bank statement, ID or contract, black out sensitive numbers, names and addresses. Unlike simple covering, this tool truly removes the hidden text so it cannot be copied or recovered.
How to use it
- Choose a PDF file.
- Draw boxes over the information, or search a word to redact every occurrence.
- Click “Redact & download”.
Features
- Real removal of text under redacted areas.
- Search and auto-redact all occurrences.
- Move and resize areas before applying.
- Unredacted pages stay unchanged.
What usually needs redacting?
- ID, passport and driving-licence numbers.
- Bank account, IBAN and card numbers — keep only the last four digits if the recipient needs them.
- Home addresses, phone numbers and dates of birth.
- Names of other people who appear in the document but don't concern the recipient.
Dangerous mistakes to avoid
- Black highlighting in Word or a shape drawn in another app: the text underneath can still be copied. This tool truly removes it.
- Missing other pages: the same number may appear in every page header — use search to redact all occurrences.
- Forgetting images: an ID photo inside the file needs a box drawn over it; search only finds text.
After redacting, open the file and search for the removed word — if nothing is found, it worked.
Privacy and security
“Redact PDF” runs entirely in your browser using trusted open-source libraries. Your files are never uploaded to a server and no copy is kept, so your documents stay private. It is free and needs no sign-up.
Tip: Review the result before sending and make sure every page is covered.
