Was this tool helpful?

Out with friends or buying a group gift? Instead of fumbling with your phone calculator, enter the bill, the number of people and the tip percentage to see instantly what everyone owes.

Choose a preset or custom percentage and round each share up to make cash payments easy.

How to use it

  1. Enter the bill amount and number of people.
  2. Pick a tip percentage or type your own (0% to just split the bill).
  3. Turn on rounding if you like, then read each person’s share.

Features

  • Per-person share, tip and total instantly.
  • Presets from 5% to 20% or a custom rate.
  • Round shares up for cash payments.
  • Works for any shared expense, not only restaurants.

Tip: Tipping customs vary: rounding up or 5–10% is common in much of Europe and the Arab world, while 15–20% is expected in the US.

Quick example

A 480 bill for four people with a 10% tip: the tip is 48, the total 528, so each person pays 132. With rounding on, a share of, say, 131.50 becomes 132 and the difference goes to the tip.

Beyond restaurants

  • Splitting a group gift for a colleague or friend, with 0% tip.
  • Sharing trip or holiday-rental costs between families — use the Trip Fuel Cost Calculator for the road.
  • Splitting internet or electricity bills between flatmates.

Tip for a fair split

If someone ordered much more than the others, take their order out first and split the rest. Also check whether the bill already includes a service charge so you don't tip twice.

Frequently asked questions

Tip before or after tax?

Traditionally on the pre-tax amount, but many tip on the total for simplicity. Enter whichever amount you prefer.

Can I split without a tip?

Yes, choose 0% for an even split.

What does rounding do?

It rounds each share up to the next whole number and adds the difference to the tip.

How do I know if service is already included?

Look for a “service” line on the bill. If it's there, a tip is optional — rounding up is enough.

Can I split the bill unevenly?

The tool splits evenly. For uneven orders, take out the bigger order first, then split the rest.
